ROCHFORD Hundred’s winless start to the London Two North season continued with a 31-24 defeat at Cantabrigian.

Rochford have now lost all four of their matches this term.

And their latest setback again left first team manager Graham Pratt feeling frustrated at the final whistle.

“It was once again a case of what might have been,” said Pratt.

“After dominating the early stages of this hard-fought encounter without due reward, we then allowed Cantabs to counter and put themselves into a strong first half lead.

“We launched a spirited fightback to be within two points of victory only to let that slip and give away a late try that sealed a first win for our relieved hosts,” he added.

Rochford - who are now second from bottom in the standings - went in front with a penalty from Matt Stewart before a converted try put Cantabrigian 7-3 in front.

Two further tries put the home side 21-3 ahead at half-time but Rochford stepped things up after the break and cut Cantabrigian’s lead with a try from Andrew Bevan, which was converted by Stewart.

The home side replied with another try of their own before Rochford again hit back with Greg Whight touching down.

Stewart again added the extra two points before Mark Billings also worked his way through to score a try.

Stewart’s conversion put Rochford to within two points of Cantabrigian at 26-24 and the game now appeared to be there for the taking.

However, Rochford were unable to complete a comeback and, late in the match, Cantabrigian bagged a crucial try to secure their first victory of the season.

Rochford will now be looking to break their duck when they host 10th-placed Holt at Magnolia Road this weekend.
