T-BIRD Sally Tuson is enjoying an incredible start to the new season.

The Grays based winger has scored 17 tries in just five matches and has already bagged herself four hat-tricks.

Her latest treble came in Sunday’s 37-17 win at Henley Ladies as Thurrock Ladies maintained their 100 per cent start to the Championship One South season.

But Tuson is refusing to take all the credit for her stunning scoring record.

“I love to finish but I couldn’t it without my team-mates and all of the work they do,” stressed Tuson.

“I have a lot of things I personally need to work on which I have always battled with.

“But recently things seem to be getting there and just seem to be clicking into place so hopefully that can continue to happen.”

Tuson’s tries have taken Thurrock to second in the table.

And she believes she is benefiting from playing sevens in the summer.

“I played a lot of rugby over the summer with the sevens which has helped my skills in all aspects as well as my fitness and speed,” said Tuson.

“It seems to be helping because I’m playing some of my best rugby at the moment.

“But I that owe to my team-mates, my coaches Dean White and Paul Fawcett and my conditioning coach Duncan Bennett who also works for the Northampton Saints mens team.”

However, it is not just Tuson having a fine start to the season as the T-Birds all seem to be firing on all cylinders at this stage.

And they will be looking for another win when they take on third placed Hove this weekend.

“The start of the season has been fantastic for all of us,” said Tuson.

“We have put in some serious hours with out fitness and strength training at the hands of our fantastic strength and conditioning coach.

“On top of that Dean has always pushed the best out of us individually and as a team.

“We have a set game plan that has been cleverly put together, which adjusts accordingly week to week dependant on who we are playing.”

However, Tuson remains keen to not get carried away by the T-Birds’ fine run of results and is fully aware of how tough the remainder of the season will be for her team.

“We will not be complacent as we know we have some massive tasks ahead in the coming weeks starting with Hove this week,” said Tuson, “But I am just so excited to see what we can achieve and where we can take our club.”
