ROCHFORD Hundred returned to winning ways with a 34-20 win against rock bottom Campion in London Two North East.

Rochford headed into the game with six defeats in seven games.

But Hundred got themselves back on track on Saturday, much to the delight of their first team manager Graham Pratt.

“There were many plusses for (director of rugby) Michael Guess to take from the game such as continued good line-out work, solid and powerful scrummage and some strong and lively loose play together with a very good defensive effort,” said Pratt.

“The team still need to work on their discipline and to cut out some wild kicking but overall this was a very pleasing performance.”

Despite the final score-line, it was Campion who opened the scoring with an interception try which was also converted before Rochford replied with a penalty from captain Matt Stewart.

Hundred remained on top after the successful kick and took the lead when flanker Nik Grier powered over to score an excellent try which Stewart converted to make it 10-7.

Stewart then extended the lead even further with a try but Campion broke away to score one of their own just before the break which meant Rochford led 15-14 at the break.

Playing down the slope in the second half helped Rochford maintain pressure and another fast flowing move along the line saw returning winger Louie Marshall speed through for a terrific try.

Moments later, the bonus point try came from Sam Edwards and Stewart converted to take the visitors into what should have been a commanding 27 -14 lead.

However, Campion had other ideas and were always dangerous with ball in hand.

Their determination resulted in two penalties from their efficient kicker to keep them in touch at 27 – 20.

But Rochford - who remain third from bottom - were not going to let the game go and the impressive Grier soon dived over for his second try of the game which Stewart converted to finish off a successful afternoon’s work.
