SOUTHEND Saxons will be looking to end a run of three successive defeats when they host Hertford at Warners Bridge tomorrow.

The trio of setbacks has seen Southend slip down to ninth in the National Three London & SE standings.

And prop forward Todd Bailey is desperate to halt Saxons’ slide this weekend.

“It’s very important to bounce back against Hertford as I think we owe it to ourselves to perform the way we know we can,” said Bailey.

“If we can perform the way we did before this run of losses - against Guernsey for example - then we can beat any team in this league and we will be hoping for a performance like that on Saturday.”

But last time out, Southend were seen off 33-17 by struggling Sutton & Epsom.

And Bailey remains disappointed by the recent setbacks.

“The last few games have been massively frustrating because it’s easy to see we have the ability to create a lot of chances but it’s just been the execution that’s the problem,” said Bailey.

“There have been way too many dropped balls or missed opportunities when we get in to the opposition 22 but I think a lot of this has come from the lack of consistency at the 10 position where we have been very unlucky with injuries this season.”

In stark contrast, Hertford have lost just three of their 11 games so far this season and are currently fourth in the table.

But Bailey is not sure what to expect against them this weekend.

“It has been a few years since I played against Hertford, back when we were both in National Two,” said Bailey.

“I don’t know too much about them but as long as we do our jobs and perform the way we know we can then it really doesn’t matter who is in front of us.”
