WESTCLIFF’S Rupert Edwards insists he is not contemplating being favourites for tomorrow’s trip to Sutton & Epsom.

Westcliff have triumphed in four of their last five games to move up to ninth in the National Three London & SE standings, two places higher than Sutton.

But Edwards - who will again be lining up in the back row - does not want Westcliff to be changing their attitude.

“If I'm honest we haven’t thought about being favourites and the way we see it every game we play is winnable if we play to the standard we know we can,” said the 24-year-old.

“Being favourites only creates an illusion of pressure so we steer clear of such terms and we’re just focusing on making sure we carry on playing well.”

Last time out, Westcliff saw off Dorking 41-17, with Edwards among his side’s try scorers in the emphatic victory at the Gables.

And he revealed spirits were high in the camp ahead of Saturday’s trip to Sutton.

“Confidence is obviously growing with each game, not just from the wins but from also bouncing back from a soul crushing defeat away at Shelford,” said Edwards.

“We turned it around to get a convincing win last week and it showed our belief in ourselves and our gameplan.

“But nevertheless we remain grounded and focused on the next task one week at a time.”

However, Edwards is not too sure what to expect this weekend.

“I personally can’t recall ever playing Sutton so I’m not sure what they bring to the table,” said Edwards.

“But we expect them to be up for it as they are trying to get away from the relegation zone.”
