SOUTH Woodham Ferrers’ six match winning streak came to an end with a 25-18 defeat at Woodford.

The defeat saw second placed Woodham slip ten points behind London Two North East leaders Diss.

But Woodham still have two games in hand on their promotion rivals and first team coach Tony Woods is eager to get his side back on track against Epping Upper Clapton this weekend.

“Saturday was disappointing, we were slow off the mark which has not happened so far this season,” said Woods.

“We just didn’t click but we’re going to put Saturday behind us now and concentrate on our run of seven home games in the next seven weeks.

“We want to get on another winning run and we’re going to have two big training sessions this week.

“We need to bounce back against Epping but it won’t be easy after the 50 points they scored (against Campion) at the weekend.”

Woodham will now look to improve on Saturday’s display to triumph.

Woodford opened the scoring with a penalty before Adam Brown levelled the scores with a penalty of his own.

Woodford were then shown a yellow card for their third dangerous high tackle of the afternoon and Woodham took advantage with Jordan Harper touching down for a well worked try.

Woodford hit back with a penalty to cut Woodham’s lead to 8-6 before they went in front with a try of their own at the start of the second half.

But Brown soon levelled proceedings with another penalty before a try from Jake Rawinsky put Woodham 18-11 ahead.

However, Woodham’s Ryan Marshall was then yellow carded and Woodford drew back level with a converted try before a pass from captain Lewis Gilbert was intercepted to allow the hosts to grab the match winning try.
