SOUTH Woodham Ferrers maintained their push for promotion with a 24-10 win against Norwich.

The victory saw second placed Woodham keep the pressure on London Two North East leaders Diss who they host this weekend.

And first team manager Jack Kershaw was delighted to secure another success.

“We got the result we needed and we’re still unbeaten at home,” said Kershaw.

“Selection this week will be tough now.

“Everyone at training will be fighting for their position to be in that 18 on Saturday to face Diss in what will be the biggest game in the club’s history.”

Woodham warmed up for the game with a determined display which saw them fight back to triumph.

Norwich went in front with a converted try after just four minutes before Woodham replied with a penalty from Adam Brown before he also bagged a try he converted to put the home team 10-7 in front.

However, Norwich soon hit back with a penalty before Brown kicked one of his own to put Woodham 13-10 ahead at half-time.

Brown kicked another penalty at the start of the second half before Woodham were forced to withstand a sustained spell of Norwich pressure.

After defending strongly, Brown added another penalty before Warren Duggan scored in the corner after good work from recent signing Potu Leavasa to seal an important success for Woodham whose head coach Tony Woods was a happy man at the final whistle.

“I was nervous at times to be honest,” said Woods.

“Norwich came out of the blocks firing but as the game wore on, we slowly started to take control.

“Missing a couple of players meant Jamie Cox and Dom Hoey made their first team debuts and both put in excellent performances.

“Coxy made their scrum half’s life hell and Dom’s tackling across the across the park was excellent.

“Both have put themselves in contention for the Diss match now.”

Woodham head into the vital encounter his weekend sitting just a point behind league leaders Diss in the table with six games still to play this season.
