ROCHFORD Hundred’s three match winning streak was ended by a 35-20 defeat at Romford & Gidea Park.

The setback saw Rochford slip down to ninth in the London Two North East table and disappointed their first team manager Graham Pratt.

“This was not one of our finest games and it is best to put it behind us and get on with the matches ahead,” said Pratt.

“We were outplayed in most aspects of play and were off the pace that was set by Romford from the start.

“After the past few games when we had been building up a head of steam we were firmly brought back to earth with a disappointing display against a good, workmanlike outfit that were always a few yards quicker in everything they did.

“The team can look back and reflect on how they were out powered in the set scrum, outjumped in the lineout and beaten for pace in the loose and just put it down to one of those weeks.

“But they will have to pick themselves up and start all over again next week.”

Romford started strongly on Saturday and scored three tries within 15 minutes before Rochford skipper Matthew Stewart replied with a penalty kick.

Romford hit back with another try before a good catch and drive from Rochford near the home-side’s line was rewarded by the referee with a penalty try.

Stewart added the resulting conversion but Romford rallied again and bagged another trio of tries all of which were unconverted.

However, Rochford brought on replacement front row Matthew Bevan in the second half to inject more urgency.

Bevan caught the eye with two well-taken tries out wide but it was not enough to get Rochford back into the game.

Hundred will now be looking to bounce back at home to bottom of the table Campion in their next outing a week on Saturday.
