SOUTHEND Saxons skipper Marcus Bloomberg is expecting another forward dominated game against Shelford in National Three London & SE tomorrow.

Southend will be seeking a third win in four games to boost their survival hopes.

But Bloomberg believes the scrum will be crucial in determining the outcome of the game.

“I think it’s going to be another forward dominated game,” said Bloomberg.

“Shelford have a good size pack with a few strong ball carriers.

“We will look to dominate around scrum time as we have done a lot this season and put our backs in to a good position to put some points on the board.

“Shelford may be sitting comfortably in mid-table but I’m sure they’ll be just as up for this game as we are so we will be in for a good game come kick off.”

Southend remain 12th in the table, seven points behind Chichester who sit just above the drop zone.

And Bloomberg knows it is imperative for Saxons to triumph.

“Every game now is important if we are to keep the pressure on the team above us so our target will be a bonus point win,” said Bloomberg.

“We’re at home so we will be looking to add some points to our tally.”

Shelford go into the game sitting sixth in the standings having triumphed in their last two games.

But Bloomberg is hoping Southend will react strongly to the 60-14 defeat they suffered against Guernsey.

“We have trained hard this week and will look to do what we need to do to get a win,” he added.
