NORBERTAS Radzevicius is keen to help Southend Saxons boost their survival hopes with a much-needed win at Dorking tomorrow.

Southend have narrowed the gap to relegation rivals Chichester to just two points after winning three of their last four games.

And 18-year-old Radzevicius, who scored his first senior Southend try in last weekend’s 25-0 win against Shelford, is keen to secure more of the same this weekend as Saxons bid to secure their National Three London & SE status.

“With the win we got at the weekend it’s important we go and build on it now against Dorking at the weekend,” said the speedy winger.

“I’m sure it’s going to be another tough game but if we bring the same intensity, courage and passion that we did against Shelford then we should get home with another win.”

With Chichester strong favourites to beat rock bottom Amersham & Chiltern this weekend, Southend will be desperate to secure another victory.

And Radzevicius is keen to build on the convincing win against Shelford.

“The game against Shelford looked like it was going to be a tough test,” said the Seevic College student.

“Playing a team that is sixth place in the table wasn’t going to be a walk in the park.

“But the boys showed a lot of courage and desire throughout the game and I think that that’s what Southend are actually about and bring as a squad.”

Radzevicius remains delighted to have scored his first try for the first team and helped his side to a vital victory over Shelford last weekend.

“To get my first National Three try and making it a bonus point for the team was amazing and I couldn’t be happier,” said the teenager.

“The praise from my team mates, coaching staff and supporters, especially coach Danny Cleare, really gave me a great sense of achievement and motivation going into the upcoming games and hopefully I can carry on performing and scoring more.”

Radzevicius will now be eager to impress for the Saxons on a regular basis and he is relishing his involvement in the first team after featuring in Southend’s last three matches.

“Playing in the first team at National Three level is a great achievement for myself,” said Radzevicius.

“Since being at the club I’ve always aimed to get to the top squad and playing there now is great considering the effort I’ve put in to make it.

“It’s a challenge during some games, but it gives me a sense of realisation as to how much more work I need to do.”
