NORBERTAS Radzevicius will be aiming to boost Southend Saxons’ survival hopes by continuing his fine try scoring form this weekend.

The 18-year-old has touched down five times in his last four games.

And Radzevicius is now seeking more of the same in tomorrow’s crucial National Three London & SE clash against third placed Westcombe Park at Warners Bridge.

“It’s another tough fixture against a top three team this weekend so we will have to put in a lot of hard graft,” said Radzevicius.

“But we’ve done really well in the last few games so we’ll be going into this one full of confidence as we try to build on the win we got last weekend.”

Southend triumphed 20-19 at fourth placed Hertford last weekend to move out of the relegation zone and up to 11th in the standings.

The win was also Saxons’ fourth in succession and Radzevicius was delighted to be so influential in another victory.

“The win at the weekend was very important,” said the Seevic College student.

“It gave us the points we needed to stay above the relegation zone and it was a really good result too.

“The game itself was always going to be tough from the start.

“Playing one of the top four sides is always going to be tough and it really was on Saturday.

“There was constant pressure on both teams and it was very tight throughout but it was brilliant to get the win at the end.”

The victory was Southend’s sixth in seven games and saw them continue their remarkable revival.

The Saxons seemed destined for the drop after being docked 10 points by the RFU for failing to control their supporters in a clash against Colchester in October.

But a run of good results has seen Southend move two points clear of the relegation zone and Radzevicius has been thrilled to play such a key part.

“Scoring in the past few games has been nice but, as well as being a personal achievement, it’s been down to the whole team because the tries have depended on everyone’s contribution,” said Radzevicius.

“I just hope it’s something everyone can be proud of and hope it has helped the club stay in this league.”

And Radzevicius also revealed the side’s spirit was now sky high.

“The confidence and cohesion in the team has definitely gone up in the last few weeks,” said the winger.

“But our main focus has been the battle to stay in this league and, with two games to go, we have to do all we can to make sure we stay out of the drop zone.”
