WESTCLIFF full-back Chris Dudman has expressed his joy after being invited to attend a training camp for the Maltese national team.

Dudman has enjoyed another fine season with Westcliff in National Three London & SE.

And the former Seevic College student cannot wait to link up with the rest of the squad who will all be vying for selection in forthcoming games against both Israel and Croatia.

“I’m extremely excited to be heading over,” said Dudman, who qualifies for Malta through his mother’s side of the family.

“It’s something I have wanted to do for many years now and I feel very privileged to be given the opportunity to get involved.

“I received a call from the Maltese head coach earlier in the week asking if I was available for the training camp and it was something I jumped at doing.

“I can’t wait to get out there now.”

Dudman is one of 28 players to have been called up for the seven day camp which takes place next week.

And the full-back is keen to make the most of the opportunity.

“The initial training camp lasts for a week and after that a squad will be selected before the internationals against Israel and Croatia,” said Dudman, 24.

“If I’m lucky enough to get in the match day squads then I’ll be with the squad for two weeks in total and that’s obviously what I’ll be aiming for.

“If I was able to get selected it would be fantastic and I’ll certainly be giving it my best shot.”

The Shoebury based Dudman will also be heading to Malta in good spirits after helping Westcliff shine this season.

Rick Compton’s side - who only avoided relegation due to East Grinstead’s financial problems last term - are currently seventh in the standings with just one game to go.

And Dudman believes he could not be heading into the camp in better spirits.

“Coming off the back of a great season with Westcliff I’m feeling very motivated at this current time,” said Dudman.

“This has been our most successful season and it’s been great to play a part in.

“We’re all really pleased with how it’s gone but to now have this call up has now given me something else to greatly look forward to and I can’t wait.”

Malta are currently ranked 44th in the world and will be hopeful of beating Croatia, who are 56th, and Israel who are 59th.
