SOUTH Woodham Ferrers bagged their first ever London One North win, beating Old Haberdashers 21-11.

Woodham - who were promoted from London Two North East last season - had kicked off the campaign with back to back defeats.

But Saturday proved to be a case of third time lucky to leave skipper Warren Duggan full of smiles at the final whistle.

“It was a strong performance all round,” said Duggan.

“A special mention must go to debutant Sevi Hurrell and stand in fly-half Jamie Cox who both gave a good account of themselves.

“No doubt the celebrations went long into the night but it was a well deserved win and one that will give them confidence for the journey to Letchworth this week.”

Despite the eventual scoreline, it was Old Haberdashers who opened the scoring with a penalty in front of the posts before an unconverted try put them 8-0 in front.

However, Woodham replied with a try from Tani Loka, which cut the lead to just three points at half-time.

Some strong words were spoken by coach Tony Woods at the break and it seemed to have the desired effect as Woodham played with far more intensity in the second half.

A penalty kick levelled the scores before the home side went in front with another penalty from Jamie Cox.

A converted try from Liam Searles then extended that advantage before the sides traded penalties late on in what proved to be a momentous and memorable occasion for Woodham. The win also moved them up to 10th in the table.
