NORBERTAS Radzevicius scored for the second week in succession but it was not enough to stop Southend Saxons losing 38-19 to Guildford at Warners Bridge.

The defeat was Southend’s third in succession and disappointed Radzevicius despite his try.

“Once again, we weren’t out there on the field for a physical or clinical battle,” said the teenager.

“We didn’t turn up with the right attitude nor the want to win. Playing against Guildford, we should definitely have come out of the game with at least three points but again the team’s performance didn’t back that up.”

As a result, Southend’s winless start to the London & SE Premier Division season was extended to three games and Saxons are now just one of two teams yet to collect a point this season.

And Radzevicius admits the opening fixtures have been far from ideal.

“The first three games of the season haven’t been the best at all,” said the speedy winger.

“But I think we are bound to fix every issue within the team and the performances as well.”

The next chance to impress comes at Shelford - who have also yet to win this season - on Saturday. And Radzevicius will also be looking to score for the third game in a row “Getting some meat pies (tries) in these games hasn’t really put my confidence up but I’m glad myself as well as other players are putting some points on the board when we get our structures and plays just the way we want them,” said Radzevicius.

“We’ll be looking to do that again on Saturday but it’s a game we have to put in the hard graft to come out on top.

“Shelford are a very strong side but, with what we have at Southend, we should definitely put up a fight and not back down at any point.”

Southend skipper Ross O’Brien also bagged a try at the weekend while fly-half Tom Ramsey kicked three penalties. But it was not enough to stop Guildford bagging their first victory of the season and Southend now sit second from bottom in the table.
