SOUTHEND Saxons will be desperate to secure their first points of the season when they travel to Shelford this afternoon.

Southend have been beaten in their first three games of the London & SE Premier Division season.

And Saxons’ director of rugby Martin Jones is keen to end the losing run.

“We want to go there and pick up our first points of the season,” said Jones.

“Everyone knows we’re a new look squad with a new management team and it was going to take time to settle down but we’ve been in two of the three games with 20 minutes to go.

“It’s been a tough start but we were always going to use these first four games to have a look at everyone and we’ll be making a couple of changes on Saturday.”

Back row Iain Morrison is available again after completing a suspension while Adam Dobson will start at fly-half in the first game to be played on Shelford’s new 3G pitch.

And the match will also see Shelford’s new head coach Mike Gillick taking charge for the first time.

“Shelford’s director of rugby and head coach have left the club this week but we’re focusing on ourselves,” added Jones.

Southend head into the game sitting second from bottom in the table - just one place below Shelford, who have also yet to win.
