WESTCLIFF will be looking to bounce back from their first defeat of the season when they head to Westcombe Park this afternoon.

Westcliff were beaten 33-28 at Sidcup last weekend.

And fly-half Jack Jones is determined to return to winning ways this weekend.

“We have been working hard at training and pushing each other to right the wrongs so that we get the win this weekend and continue our good start to the season,” said Jones.

“Westcombe Park are always tough away from home and they love to throw the ball around.

“After their postponed game last weekend I imagine they will be chomping at the bit to get back out there but we’re looking forward to it too.”

Westcliff have enjoyed a fine start to the London & SE Premier Division season and are currently fourth in the 14 team table.

Rick Compton’s side secured back-to-back wins before being edged out at Sidcup.

And Jones has been encouraged by Westcliff’s first few fixtures.

“We have had a very good season so far,” said Jones.

“We have played some really good, confident rugby and we have no intentions of changing that.

“The atmosphere at the club is great not only on the pitch but behind the scenes as well.”

But Jones still remains frustrated to have been beaten by Sidcup.

“It was very disappointing to lose in the manner we did,” admitted Jones.

“A slow start and a couple of dubious decisions throughout the game meant that it just turned on us at the end.

“Having said that, we still managed to pick up two bonus points and climb one place in the league table.

“In a way, the monkey’s off the back and now we focus on getting back to winning ways.”
