SOUTHEND Saxons’ winless start to the season continued with a 60-10 defeat at Shelford.
The setback was Southend’s fourth in succession and saw them slip to the bottom of the London & SE Premier Division standings, much to the disappointment of newly-appointed captain Ian Morrison.
“It was a tough game,” said Morrison.
“It’s difficult to do a lot when we don’t have the ball.”
Southend - who handed first starts to Adam Dobson, Ignacio Lopez, Justin Allen and Vincent Cann - started slowly and found themselves 39-0 down at half-time.
After the break, Saxons winger Norbertas Radzevicius touched down for the third game in succession while back row Chris Shields also bagged a try for the visitors.
But it was not enough for Southend to get anything from the game. And Southend are still to pick up a point this season after a defeat coach Josh Ward felt was down to their mistakes.
“Small errors were costly,” said Ward.
“We became reactive rather than proactive.”
Southend Saxons: O’Brien, Radzevicius, Johnson, Vaughan, Griffiths, Dobson, Lewis, Lopez, Forster--Knight, Bailey, Allen, Newton, Shields, Morrison, Cann Replacements: Skidmore, Maggiolo & Navarro
