WESTCLIFF will be looking for their fourth win in five games when they host Guildford in London & SE Premier Division this weekend.

Westcliff go into the clash sitting fourth in the division.

And winger Ross Merrick - who has been with the club on and off since playing in the colts - believes the current squad is the best he has ever been in.

“We have had some strong squads since I’ve been here but I can honestly say the confidence and ability in this side is the strongest I have experienced,” said Merrick.

“It’s a long season and there will be tough times ahead but there is a determination and level of expectation that makes it an exciting prospect.”

Westcliff continued their fine start to the season with a 49-15 win at Westcombe Park last weekend. And Merrick - who scored two tries in the triumph - remains delighted by the victory.

“Historically, it hasn’t been the easiest place to go so it was fantastic to get the win and shows how far this team has come,” said the winger.

“There is a lot of competition in the squad, so really glad I could score some tries and contribute.”

And Merrick now wants more of the same against 11th placed Guildford.

“We want to make this a difficult place for teams to come this season,” added the winger.
