CANVEY Island made it back to back home wins with a hard fought 20-13 victory against Clacton on Saturday.

The Islanders had beaten bottom of the table Mavericks in their previous outing at Tewkes Creek and director of rugby Perry Sansom had mixed feelings after the latest triumph.

“It was a disappointing first half, with our defensive shape not quite falling into place,” said Sansom.

“The conditions made the game difficult and our line out was struggling in the wind.

“The lads didn’t manage to put many phases together and it made it difficult for us to get points.

“We were better in the second half and the lads started to use our defensive shape and also kept the ball for more than two or three phases.

“It wasn’t the best performance, but we’ll take the win.”

Canvey are now sixth in London Three Essex.
