EX-England internationals Ugo Monye and Martin Bayfield were the star guests as BT Sport filmed their Rugby Tonight show at Billericay Rugby Club.

The duo - who also lined up for the British & Irish Lions in their playing careers - are presenters on the popular midweek programme.

And Billericay’s youth chairman Andy Collings was thrilled to welcome the television cameras to the club.

“It’s been great and it’s really good recognition for us and the hard work which goes on here,” said Collings.

“The kids loved it and we probably had about 80 to 100 of them involved in it all.

“They were all taking pictures and trying to get on the television to be able to tell their mates at school.

“But it was a really good thing to be a part of and we were delighted to be able to welcome them here.”

The Rugby Tonight on Tour show will be shown on Wednesday evening at 10pm on BT Sport.

And Billericay were chosen as hosts due to the amount of work they do with Premiership giants Saracens.

“We do a lot of work with Saracens and we’re on their development plan pathway, we coach on the pathway and have kids on the pathway too,” explained Collings.

“We’re also one of biggest ticket sellers for their ‘Derby Day’ games and that’s how filming the TV show here came about.

“They got in touch with us and Paul Bolton, our Saracens Liaison Officer, was very influential in making it happen.

“During the Champions League, BT can’t use the studio so they like to go out and about so they asked to come here as a Saracens nominated club which was fantastic.”

Tonight’s show will see Monye and Bayfield speaking in Billericay’s clubhouse surrounded by hundreds of players.

And filming also took place outside where the club’s tackling skills were put to the test.

“It’s called the ‘smashometer’ and they put a sensor into one the tackle barrels and then see how hard everyone can hit it,” said Collings.

“It was fun to watch and sections were also filmed in the clubhouse which was great.

“The European Cup was here as well so plenty of pictures were being taken but we hope it will raise awareness of the club and lead to more youngsters coming to play.

“We started the youth section nine years ago and we have 300 kids in it now so we’re very pleased with how it’s grown and hopefully it will continue to do so.”
