UNBEATEN Rochford Hundred made it nine league wins in a row with a resounding 58-0 win at Old Cooperians.

The victory kept Rochford five points clear at the top of the London Two North East table.

But first team manager Graham Pratt felt Hundred were not at their best.

“By the standards that this team set themselves this was not one of their best but it was certainly sufficient to see off Old Cooperians on the day,” said Pratt.

“It was a workmanlike display from the side with a number of fine efforts from the likes of Craig Strachan, Adam Ferrier, Luke Court-Rhind, Matt Needham, Stuart Whatling, David Rufai and others and especially pleasing for Mitch Bennett who scored four tries.

“It was also very satisfactory to have another match without conceding any points.”

From the off the visitors applied enormous pressure and were soon rewarded with Bennett racing over for a try which Matt Stewart converted.

Next up was Whatling, who dotted down and then Ferrier - who was returning from injury - grounded the ball emphatically after a powerful Rochford forward drive.

Moments later, Bennett bagged his second try of the game before Ferrier did likewise.

With Rochford remaining on top, Craig Strachan was the next to score and his try made it 34-0 at half-time.

The second half was a more disjointed affair with a number of stoppages for injuries and infringements as Old Cooperians responded well and kept more possession to frustrate Rochford.

This, however, did not stop Ferrier scoring his hat trick with a one-handed dive over the line to ground and to mark a satisfying return to the side.

Moments later, full-back Mark Billings sped through to score a fine try and captain Stewart again added the extras.

But the middle quarter of the game was average to watch until Bennett finished off a couple of fast Rochford attacks to complete the scoring.
