SOUTH Woodham Ferrers slumped to their fifth defeat in a row, losing 45-10 at Ruislip.

The setback kept Woodham second from bottom in London One North and frustrated skipper Warren Duggan.

“The final score was again a poor reflection of some of the quality shown by the side, particularly up front,” he said.

“Greg Tighe had a very strong game in the second row and Neil Gittos, Scott Turner and Sammy Sharp all put in the hard yards.

“It is a shame that despite all the efforts the lads cannot seem to convert possession into points right now.”

Woodham started slowly and were 14-0 down inside the first 10 minutes of the match.

Ruislip’s first score came from a penalty and the second from a dropped ball before two more tries followed before the break.

In reply, Jamie Cox kicked a penalty to cut Ruislip’s lead to 25 points and, at the start of the second half, some decisive from running the pack led to Scott Turner finishing from close range.

Cox added the conversion before a period of Woodham pressure brought little reward as the Ruislip defence remained resolute and stopped them scoring any further tries.

However, the home-side had no such difficulties and were able to score three further times as the game drew to close, exploiting holes in the Woodham defence that appeared as the visitors chased the game.

Woodham have now triumphed just twice in 10 games so far this season.
