WESTCLIFF fly-half Jack Jones is determined to secure a ‘vital’ victory against Sutton & Epsom tomorrow.

Fifth placed Westcliff are currently three points and one place higher than Sutton in the London & SE Premier Division standings.

And Jones therefore believes it is important Westcliff win at the Gables this weekend.

“It will be vital for us to pick up a win this weekend,” said Jones.

“With only seven points between fifth and 10th place at the moment we will put ourselves in a good place if we can keep our momentum.

“But I think it will be a tough game this weekend as they have some big lads up front which will really test us.

“Both teams should be well rested and ready to come out of the blocks firing.”

Westcliff saw off Towcestrians 42-22 last time out.

And Jones’ confidence is high heading into the clash.

“I think the whole squad is really confident with the way we are playing this year,” said Jones.

“There is a sense of freedom to play and be reactive rather than regimented.

“With our second team being unbeaten so far this season, it’s a club wide confidence which is having a great effect.”

And the talented fly-half also believes the club’s impressive team spirit is also proving key.

“Being an amateur club, we are all there because we like to throw a ball around with our mates on a Saturday afternoon and something we like to emphasise is the morale off the pitch,” said Jones.

“Whether it’s KFC Tuesdays or a few beers on a Saturday the whole squad really gets involved.

“That inevitably has a positive effect on the way we play rugby with each other and it’s certainly been an enjoyable season so far but we want to keep it going.”
