SOUTHEND Saxons face a crunch relegation clash with fellow strugglers Westcombe Park tomorrow.

Southend are currently bottom of the London & SE Premier Division standings, level on points with Westcombe Park who sit immediately above them in the table.

And Saxons head coach Josh Ward knows there can be no denying the importance of the game at Warners Bridge.

“There’s no getting away from the fact this is an important game but we won’t be doing anything differently for it,” said Ward.

“We’re pleased with where we’re at internally, which might sound strange but we’ve done a lot of good work.

“We just have to make sure that reflects for the whole 80 minutes. The first 20 minutes of the Dorking game killed us at the weekend.”

Southend found themselves 26-3 down before forcing their way back into the game and losing 38-34.

But Ward was happy to see Saxons pick up two points for their efforts.

“Not too many teams will go to Dorking and get two points so we showed really good character,” said Ward.

“However, we need to do that from the start tomorrow.”

Southend welcome back Ben Murphy and Harry Barton for Saturday’s clash, after returning from the Dubai Sevens, while winger Ross O’Brien is also back.
