WESTCLIFF’S George Maloney cannot wait to face table-topping Hertford tomorrow.

Fifth placed Westcliff suffered a disappointing 24-7 defeat at Tunbridge Wells in the London & SE Premier Division last weekend.

And Maloney is desperate for Rick Compton’s side to get back on track.

“The team’s feeling good going into the weekend and after the disappointment of last week this is a good chance to right that wrong,” said Maloney.

“Taking on the league leaders is a fantastic challenge and it’s welcomed by the boys.

“Hertford is always a good game and there was a narrow scoreline last time they were at the Gables.”

And Maloney knows Westcliff will be fired up for the game.

“Any defeat is hard to take, especially when you’re starting to get some momentum after two healthy wins, but I’m sure we’ll see a good reaction,” said the blindside flanker.

“Everyone recognises that we need to be winning games such as last week if we want to carry on improving in this league.”

In London One North, bottom of the table South Woodham Ferrers host fourth placed Colchester looking to end a run of seven successive matches without a win.

In London One South, 11th placed Thurrock head to second placed CS Rugby 1863 but, in London Three Essex, Basildon are enjoying a far more successful season.

The league leaders have won five games in a row and will be confident of keeping the good run going at home to a Clacton side who are currently second from bottom in the table.

Fifth placed Canvey Island will also be hoping to succeed in London Three Essex when they head to Upminster, who sit seventh.

Canvey were beaten 22-20 last time out by high-flying Millwall.
