BASILDON will be hope to be in seventh heaven when they face Canvey Island tomorrow.

Basildon top the London Three Essex table after securing six wins in succession.

But back row Tom Einchcomb - who bagged a hat-trick in Saturday’s 40-15 win against Clacton - believes Canvey will be tough to beat.

“When you play Canvey you always expect a very physical and determined side to turn up on the day,” said the 18-year-old.

“It was a close win last time out against them so we’ll be looking to improve on that but Canvey are no pushovers and I’m expecting a hard fought game at their home ground this weekend.”

But Basildon will be heading into the game in good spirits and Einchcomb was thrilled was particularly pleased with his side’s latest victory which saw him score a trio of tries.

“The hat trick was a great moment for me,” said the youngster.

“The game against Clacton was the first time I’ve scored in a first team game and to bag three was just incredible.

“I’ve scored hat tricks before in the youth team but never in a senior game so it was a great feeling. I was absolutely chuffed with the win too.

“The game itself was a weird one but we had our way for the most part.

“Our communication and. as a result. our speed of play were far superior on the day and we need to keep that going.”

But, despite the fine start, Einchcomb believes Basildon have yet to hit top gear.

“The start of the season on paper has looked really good but I think we’re still to put together a complete performance this season,” said Einchcomb.

“I feel like we’ve definitely got more to give and a full complete 80 minute performance is what we’re striving for at the moment so hopefully it can happen on Saturday.”
