IN-FORM Rochford Hundred head into the Christmas break having scored more points than any other rugby club in the country.

The unbeaten London Two North East leaders have bagged 713 points in just 12 games.

But Hundred’s director of rugby Chris Green is still demanding an improvement.

“I’m looking forward not back and I think we still need to be doing more,” said Green.

“I’m pleased to have reached Christmas unbeaten but I’m not really thinking about that anymore because I’m focusing on the matches we have coming up and making sure we improve because I think we need to.

“We’re five points clear at the top so it’s still very close and we will need to kick on again in January.

“In terms of being the top points scorers in the country, I’m pleased it’s us rather than anyone else but it won’t mean anything if we don’t go on to achieve the targets we’ve set ourselves.”

Twenty-two different players have already bagged league tries for Rochford this season, with full-back Mark Billings leading the way having touched down 16 times.

In total, 110 tries have been scored throughout the Rochford team, putting them ahead of their nearest scoring rivals Chippenham, who have scored 701 points in South West One East.

Chippenham are the only other team in the country to have scored more than 700 points but their total of 701 has come from two more games than Rochford.

However, Green is only focused on making sure Rochford win the league and also reach the final of the National Cup at Twickenham.

“We won at Chelmsford on Saturday but the performance wasn’t anything more than satisfactory,” said Green.

“We will need to do better, especially in the cup where it’s a knockout format so there are no second chances.

“You have to get it right and if you don’t you’re out, but everyone is aware of that and it’s what we are all working our way towards as a group.”

Rochford have also boosted their quest for success by making two new signings.

Former Seevic student Lewis Brunger has joined to play at prop forward while centre Ben Johnson - who was most recently at Southend - has also arrived at Magnolia Road.

The duo both scored tries in Saturday’s 57-13 win at Chelmsford.
