SOUTHEND Saxons will be looking to boost their survival hopes with a win at Guildford this weekend.

The Saxons sit second from bottom in the London & SE Premier Division standings, 11 points from safety.

But head coach Josh Ward is keen for the gap to close with victory tomorrow.

“Guildford are just above us in the table so we know it’s a big game but we’re staying focused on ourselves,” said Ward.

“When we got our wins we didn’t do anything differently and we’ll be taking the same approach into Saturday’s game.”

And Ward also feels Southend have been boosted by the three week break in their season.

“I think the break came at a good time for us,” said Ward.

“The players have been able to rest up their bumps and bruises and I think it will have done them good.

“They all looked sharp at training on Tuesday and it was a good session, despite the weather!

“We started off with a meeting among the players and they spoke up, which was great to hear.

“That’s what we want and we’re ready to go for the second half of the season.”

And Ward will be staying positive as Southend look to work their way out of danger.

“Everything is still very much in our own hands and we’re happy with that,” said Ward.

“We will need to pick up points in as many matches as we can and we will also have to play for the full 80 minutes, which we haven’t always been able to do this season.”

Southend will be without influential prop forward Todd Bailey (fractured rib).
