UNBEATEN London Two North East leaders Rochford Hundred made it 14 wins in a row with a 48-7 victory at Cantabrigian.

The triumph kept Rochford 10 points clear at the top of the table.

But Hundred’s first team manager Graham Pratt was not overly happy with the performance.

“After the splendid victory against Ipswich the previous week this was a very average affair against a lively and committed Cantabrigian outfit,” said Pratt.

“Although we were by far the better all round side we had to work at it and never really played to our full potential on the day.

“An eight try bonus point win was still satisfactory, but with some big games coming up we will need to concentrate our minds and bring in a little more cohesion.”

Rochford’s free-scoring full-back Mark Billings touched down first on Saturday, before new prop forward Lewis Brunger did likewise.

Centre Tom Ashton added the conversion but the first half was scrappy, with both teams trying to get the upper hand.

Matt Stewart and Sam Edwards were both denied tries by marginal foot in touch decisions before Rochford began to roll up their sleeves to extend their lead.

Second row Daniel Sowter soon touched down, before Edwards did likewise to make it 24-0 at half-time.

After the break, Cantabrigian forced the pace and made their opponents work hard in the set scrum, lineout and loose, but Hundred were soon able to get back on top with Billings scoring his 25th try of the season.

Number eight James Kellard soon stormed through for another try, which Stewart converted, and Luke Court-Rhind then also powered over.

Cantabrigian fought back to bag a converted try of their own, but Rochford had the final say when Stewart ran in for another try to seal a 14th consecutive victory.

Hundred will now turn their attention to the RFU Intermediate Cup this weekend as they face London Exiles.
