JACK Jones says Westcliff will be looking to right their wrongs when they host Shelford this afternoon.

Westcliff’s three match winning streak was ended by Guildford last weekend.

And Jones is therefore eager to get back to winning ways at the Gables.

“Everybody is really looking forward to righting the wrongs and getting the win on Saturday,” said the fly-half.

“It’s never a nice feeling to lose and it’s evident that the whole squad are focused on getting back to winning ways.”

Westcliff - who are fifth in the London & SE Premier Division standings - were beaten 29-22 at Guildford.

And Jones remains frustrated to have been beaten.

“It was very disappointing,” said Jones.

“We didn’t start the game with the right mindset and we conceded some early points.

“From that point we were playing catch up.

“Having said that, at times we played some really good rugby and scored some great tries.”

Westcliff will now be looking to build on that against Shelford.

But Jones is expecting a physical contest.

“Shelford have a big, physical forward set and are well drilled defensively so it’s about being clinical when the opportunities arise,” said Jones.

“We have thrown ourselves into enjoying our rugby and keeping morale high this year and it’s evident that when we do, we know we can score points.

“So this weekend’s focus is about being defensively strong.”

Westcliff sit seven points behind fourth placed Hertford and are eager to improve on the seventh placed finish they secured last season.

“We have always had the target of finishing higher than the season before,” said Jones.

“We had a super season last year and that has fed into the current season nicely.

“Having said that, our aim every week is to enjoy running out on a Saturday afternoon, with your mates and leaving everything on the pitch to get the win.

“We’ll be looking to do that again tomorrow.”

Westcliff will be confident of seeing off a Shelford side who sit 10th in the standings, just one place and six points above the relegation zone.

Shelford have also been beaten in three of their last four games.
