PROP forward Lewis Brunger continued his fine try scoring form to help Rochford Hundred beat title rivals Wanstead 38-0.

Brunger’s try was his fifth in five games since arriving at Magnolia Road.

And he was happy to play a key part in a 15th successive league win for the unbeaten London Two North East leaders.

“It was another enjoyable game to play in and it was great to get the win again too,” said Brunger.

“In the first half we looked sharp and we scored some quality first phase tries.

“In the second half they came back into it a little bit but our defence was quality once again and it was massive to stop them scoring as they are the team who are meant to be pushing us for top spot.

“I think it sent out a message to the rest of the league.”

Rochford are now 12 points clear at the top of the table.

But Brunger insists the team will not become complacent.

“It’s massively important to keep our feet on the ground but the coaches and us as players remind ourselves each week what our job is every weekend,” said Brunger.

“We keep ourselves grounded and although we want to do well in the cup and get to Twickenham it’s the league that’s still our priority.

“We will take every league game as seriously as the next.”

Rochford dominated the majority of Saturday’s match against second placed Wanstead and opened the scoring inside the first few minutes with a try from Daniel Sowter.

Tom Ashton added the conversion and then did likewise following another wonderful try from free-scoring full-back Mark Billings.

Moments later, Ashton was able to touch down himself before captain Matthew Stewart scored another try Ashton was able to convert to make it 31-0 at half-time.

At the start of the second half the conditions began to worsen in the wet weather and Rochford were able to add just one more try, scored by Brunger.

The prop forward barged over to complete another successful afternoon for Rochford who have still yet to lose this season.
