ROCHFORD Hundred’s attacking coach Danny Cleare has been overjoyed by the side’s season so far - despite missing out on the action himself.

Cleare has yet to feature during the current campaign due to a groin injury.

But he has still been enjoying his role in Rochford’s fine form which has seen them surge to the top of the London Two North East table.

“I’ve been happy as we’ve taken maximum points from every game,” said Cleare.

“We play an exciting brand of rugby and defensively we are also shutting teams out.

“I’m also happy that the club are blooding youngsters and not just sticking to lads that have played a higher standard which bodes well for the future of this club.”

Rochford have yet to lose so far this season in either league or cup and currently sit 12 points clear at the top of the table.

But Cleare insists the team will be taking nothing for granted when they travel to 10th placed Woodford this weekend.

“This Saturday will be a tough fixture despite what the league table says,” said Cleare.

“They were actually quite a resilient team when we played them earlier in the season and it took us a while to break them down.

“With a soft pitch and home advantage I expect a similar challenge tomorrow.”

Rochford will also be heading into the game with a number of injury concerns but that could lead to even more youngsters being handed an opportunity to impress.

“We have a number of injuries at the minute so it’s another good opportunity for some of the younger boys,” said Cleare.

“All being well we could potentially have five current Seevic boys all 18 or younger playing this weekend.

“All five have been fantastic and have really added to this team.”

Cleare combined coaching at Seevic with his role at Magnolia Road.

But he cannot wait to get back playing.

“I’m getting there, I’ve finally started running again and I’m targeting a return against Romford at home later this month,” said Cleare.

“ It’s been 10 months since I last played so to say I’m missing it is a bit of an understatement.”

>BOTTOM of the table South Woodham Ferrers head to North Walsham in London One North tomorrow.

Woodham have suffered 13 defeats in succession in their first season at this level and will now be looking to end that wretched run against Walsham who sit seventh in the standings.

In London One North, Thurrock host Chichester looking to move further away from the bottom three. Thurrock are 11th in the table, three points clear of the relegation zone.
