JAMES Scogings is desperate to help Westcliff secure their first win since January when they host struggling Towcestrians tomorrow.

Westcliff suffered three defeats in succession against a trio of top London & SE Premier Division sides before last weekend’s clash with Tring was postponed because of the snow.

And Scogings is therefore keen to get back on track.

“It’s always important to get back to winning ways,” said the Westcliff back row.

“I feel that the tough period we went through previously could have yielded some better results but it’s important to keep looking forward and making sure we finish the last stages of the season on a high.

“Ideally we want to push ourselves and keep in contention with the top four teams above us but we also want to make sure we improve from our seventh place position from the previous season.”

Westcliff head into the game sitting fifth in the table.

But Scogings will be taking nothing for granted against Towcestrians despite them sitting bottom of the standings.

“With games like these it’s always crucial to enter the game with the right mentality,” said Scogings.

“We can’t start with the thought that it will be a walk in the park.

“We have been in the relegation battle before and by that point you are playing for pride.

“We ourselves have proven that we can beat top of the table teams even when the season hasn’t been in our favour, so this will be another tough game.

“It will be good but I expect it to be aggressive and a forward, upfront battle. However, with the support from the balcony I believe we will come away with a bonus point win.”
