SOUTHEND Saxons face a tough looking test at Hertford in the London & SE Premier Division tomorrow.

Second from bottom Southend are 19 points from safety with 20 points left to play for this season.

But head coach Josh Ward is keen to end on a high.

“It will be a tough game at Hertford but it’s one we’re looking forward to,” said Ward.

“We have four games left this season and we want to end the season on a high and use that as a springboard for next season.”

Southend were beaten 31-22 at Sutton & Epsom last weekend and have now suffered six defeats in succession.

However, Ward insists spirits are high and is keen to get back to winning ways.

“We’ve got no fear going there and we have nothing to lose,” said Ward.

“It was a positive performance last week and it’s one we want to build on now.

“This is a long term project and we’re making this a good place to be.

“We want them to enjoy their rugby and we showed that last weekend.”

Southend have yet to confirm their team selection but hope to have influential trio George Wood, Chris Vaughan and Todd Bailey back in contention after they all missed last weekend’s clash at Sutton & Epsom.

Defeat for Saxons tomorrow would mathematically confirm their relegation into London One North for next season.

Three of their remaining four matches also come away from home with Dorking the only side left to visit Warners Bridge this season.
