EMILY Scott has been selected in England’s sevens squad for the Commonwealth Games.

Scott is one of 12 players in the squad for the Games which get underway in Australia at the start of April.

And the Corringham based former Seevic College student was thrilled with the call up.

“I’m delighted to be selected in the squad,” said Scott.

“It’s been a challenge to transition back in to sevens from playing 15s last season but I've worked really hard since October to progress as much as possible and trained hard day in day out in order to put myself and body in the best position.”

Scott narrowly missed out on a medal as part of the sevens squad at the 2016 Rio Olympics.

And the former Thurrock T-Birds star is pleased with how the side have gelled together ahead of their latest challenge.

“Preparations have been going well,” said Scott.

“As a squad we only came together in October so we've had to gel quickly on and off the field.

“But we're in a really good place going into the Games and we're hoping to be mixing it with the best at the top of the competition.”

England have been drawn alongside Fiji, Wales and Australia in group B of the Commonwealth Games.

And Scott believes the hosts will be the hardest team to beat.

“Australia are going into the competition as favourites on paper,” said Scott.

“They've performed brilliantly throughout this season so far and they've been together as a professional team for several years now.

“A Commonwealth Games on home soil as well will certainly put them in with a chance.

“However, we're very confident and know that we have the potential to cause an upset.

“We've got Australia in our group and we play them on our first day, which is a game we're extremely excited about and it's sure to be a hotly contested match.”
