BASILDON girls under 18 rugby team won the Worthing 10s at the weekend.

They emerged victorious from an event which attracted 16 of the top teams from the south of England and started well, winning their opening game against a strong Solent side 10-7 with two tries from Danni Harris.

She was on the score sheet four times in the second pool game as Basildon beat Sutton and Epsom 43-0.

Natalie McClarnon, Emily Scott and Sophie Russell also touched down to put the team in the semi final against the hosts Worthing.

Harris again open the scoring against them with a blistering run down the wing but Worthing upped their game and scored two unconverted tries to lead 10-7 at half time.

With just one minute of the game left the forwards powered ahead to create an overlap, Scott side-stepped two players to run the length of the pitch to score another converted try to win the game 14-10.

After such a hard semi final the team were in no mood to let up and with a number of well worked moves in both the forwards and backs they ran out convincing winners 25-0 Rachel French scored a hat-trick, while Sarah Carmen and Harris also touched down.
