SOUTHEND High School for Girls have secured a cup double at an athletics competition.
The Year 7 team and the combined Year 8/9 both won at the Lee Valley Outdoor Cup event.
Ironically, the competition had to be moved indoors due to bad weather but that did not stop the pupils from the Southchurch Boulevard school.
They competed in both track and field disciplines at the Lee Valley Athletics Centre in Edmonton.
Heptathlete Grace Clements, who finished third at the 2010 Commonwealth Games in Delhi, presented the Southend High girls with their winners’ cup.
A total of 68 girl teams from Essex, London and Hertfordshire entered the event, which is held annually.
And following the success of the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games, this year’s event attracted a record entry.
