STUDENTS at Seevic College celebrated a hat-trick of success as three College sports teams were crowned Eastern Region champions.

The men’s rugby, girl’s netball and girl’s basketball teams all claimed East Region titles and will now progress to the national finals which will be held at University of Bath in March.

The men’s rugby team came from behind to defeat holders Peterborough Regional College 27-19 in the tournament final, having also defeated East Norfolk Sixth-Form College, Colchester Sixth-Form College, Hills Road Sixth-Form College, Milton Keynes College and College of West Anglia on their road to victory.

Scrum-half Ricki Gould, 17, said: “We went to the tournament determined to win and showed great character to go all the way.”

The girl’s netball team retained their East Region title, defeating Oaklands College 19-5 in the final. They will now look to better last year’s fifth place finish at the National Finals.

Goal attack Hannah Burrows, 17, said: “This is our second year playing together, which has enabled us to form a strong mentality while also learning to adapt to the new players in the team.”

The girl’s basketball team surpassed all expectations and made college history as its first female basketball squad to become regional champions, thanks to four convincing victories.

Captain Abbie Jones, 18, said: “Last year we finished runners up so to go one better and win was a great achievement for us.”

Head of Competitive Sport Craig Davidson said: “It’s been a great couple of weeks for Seevic Sport, and the College will now be among the most represented colleges at the National Championships.”
