BILLERICAY’S Mayflower School just pipped Wickford’s Beauchamps to the overall title at the Basildon Schools Cross-Country Championships held at Gloucester Park.

Mayflower were dominant in the younger age groups, winning the overall title in the Year 7 and Years 8 and 9 races for both boys and girls.

But Beauchamps were a class apart in the Year 10 and 11 age group, winning both the boys and girls races and the overall title.

It all meant that Mayflower ended up as overall champions by just one point ahead of Beauchamps with Woodlands School in third.

Freya Fuller, of Billericay School, won the Year 7 girls race ahead of Aanliyah Heron of Woodlands and Ruby White of James Hornsby School.

Beauchamps’ Cameron Brown won the the Year 7 boys race ahead of Mayflower duo Lewis Goodacre (second) and Cameron Armstrong (third).

There was an entire Mayflower clean sweep in the Year 8 and 9 boys race. Oliver Lill won the gold medal ahead of team-mates Leon Wheeler and Lucas Wells.

Basildon Academy’s Mason Webb was the winner in the Year 10 and 11 boys race ahead of his team-mate Mahmud Ebrahim.

The Year 8 and Year 9 girls race was on by Courtney Benson with her Beauchamps team-mate Zoe Nolan third despite being a Year 8 pupil.
