THE fame of Southend High for Girls’ athletics is quickly spreading after they managed a magnificent third place in the World School Championships in Estonia at the weekend.

But the Southchurch Boulevard school has also made its mark in several other sporting fields during the year. Very high on that list are the netball stars.

The year seven, eight nine and 10 teams all won the Borough championship.

They were also under-14 and under-16 SE Essex netball champions, the younger age group beating Thundersley’s King John and the older girls overcoming Greensward Academy.

The under-19 team reached the Essex Netball Cup final before losing out to Barking Abbey Sports Academy.
