SOUTHEND High for Girls student Mina Clark could not hide her delight after picking up a major badminton success in Turkey.
The 15-year-old and her doubles partner, Sophie Sankey, from Lancashire, played in the Turkish under-17 national competition and they beat the home number one seeds in the final.
Mina has recently received confirmation that she has been awarded the Sports Aid award sponsored by Asda, from their Shoeburyness store.
As their athlete of 2010, she has been invited to Lord’s Cricket Ground to receive her award of £500 towards training and travelling costs on March 26. You can find out more on her blog at www.asda-athletes.co.uk.
In January she won the under-19 Essex Open competition which took place in Harlow and is currently ranked the number two seed in doubles in England.
At the beginning of February Mina and Sophie reached the semi-finals in the Nottinghamshire under-19 competition, beating England’s under-17 number one seeds and the under-19 fourth seeds.
Her busy schedule will include a trip to Malaysia during the summer.
Mina lives with her family in Westcliff.
