IT was a case of “by George” when Essex competed in the Southern Counties Cross-Country Championships for school years seven and eight.
For Eastwood School’s George Elliott provided the only individual win of the day for the county.
He triumphed in the year seven boys’ event with a time of 8mins.38secs over the 2.7km course at Fleming Park, Eastleigh.
George Elliott won the year 7 event.
He was the only Essex success on the day.
The victory capped a fine cross-country season for George who, apart from his latest success, won the district schools, the club’s county league plus the schools’ county championships as well.
Said Eastwood’s Scott Maclean: “George works incredibly hard at everything he does.
“He is a real credit to the school and his Benfleet running coaches.
“Like many students, George also participates in many other sports at school and has also received honours in the successful basketball team and says he wants to play in a cup final with the football team.”
On the girls side, top individual runner was Basildon AC’s Maisie Jones, a student at FitzWimarc School, who finished third in the year eight race over 2.6kms in 9.13.
Essex enjoyed outstanding success on the team front, capped by the year seven girls over 2.3kms. Their A team won on 48 points with Chelmsford AC’s Millie Smith, also a FitzWimarc Student, fourth in 8.05 over 2.3kms.
Essex A finished runners-up in the three other team events.
