THE under-19 football team at Southend’s Futures Community College are looking a cut above thanks to some new kit sponsorship.
The side have had their shirts sponsored by Southend’s Big Yin Academy, which provides hair, beauty and barbering training to students at the college.
Players in the team are from the sports academy which was set up at the Southchurch Boulevard college in September.
The academy works in conjunction with Prospects Learning Foundation to offer students the chance to work towards a BTec Level 3 Diploma in Sports.
All lessons are linked to football and the players are trained by UEFA-approved coaches, with the team competing in the under-19 Essex league.
“We are delighted that Adam Sloan who owns the Big Yin has supported us with a new football kit,” said a college spokesman.
“We would welcome further community and business links to support us in our vision to provide an outstanding learning environment and opportunities to the youth of today.”
The academy is part of a range of vocational training that the college provides, including courses in business, ICT, carpentry, bricklaying, plus painting and decorating.
