ALLEYN Court is celebrating more sporting success after finishing runners up at the East Anglia region ISA athletics and winning the Southend Year 6 kwik cricket tournament.
Both the girls and boys teams finished second at Garon Park on Friday in the Independent Schools Association junior athletics event.
But the Year 4 boys were crowned regional champions, with the Year 5 boys and Year 6 Girls both finishing second in their age groups.
The regional event is the end of the road for the youngster from the Wakering Road school however as there will be no national championships this year.
ISA chiefs decided to suspend the final event because of the Olympic Games and Birmingham’s Alexander Stadium, where the final is usually being held is being used by the USA and Chinese teams.
The girls’ kwik cricket team won all five of their matches in the competition, which was organised Southend Schools Sports Partnership.
They started with a win against Bournes Green B, who posted 206 runs before Alleyn Court scored 303.
Alleyn Court then posted 272 in reply to Temple Sutton’s 232, before their final pool game saw Alleyn Court win a close match with Prince Avenue after scoring 247 runs to Prince’s 232.
The semi-final saw Alleyn Court post 268 before some accurate bowling and decent fielding restrict Bournemouth Park to 256 runs.
Temple Sutton provided the opposition again in the final, where Alleyn Court scored 272.
Unforced errors in the field put Temple Sutton within touching distance of victory but some accurate bowling from Lilly Garner and good fielding restricted them to 257.
They will now represent the Southend district at the county finals on Monday, June 25, at Billericay Cricket Club.
