Southend High School for Girls were once again the dominant force at the borough sports championships.

The school won the overall title, amassing 532 points, with Eastwood School second (390) and St Bernard’s third (266).

On a wet and windy day at Basildon’s Sports Village, a real stand-out performance came from Southend High’s Victoria Hiscock who broke the championship record 800m time, which was set in 2009, by running 2m 20s.

>At the County Schools Athletics Championships held at Melbourne Park, Southend High School for Girls had more than 20 girls taking part as members of the Southend Schools’ Borough Team. Twelve of them were medalists with Poppy Lake (intermediate girls high jump) Tiffany Ren (Junior Girls discus) and Lily Hewitt Bennett (Year 7 Girls 200m) and Michelle Hughes (junior girls 75m hurdles) being crowned county champions. Other medallists from the school were Olivia Sofroniou, Victoria Hiscock, Paige Hutchings, Alisha Hayes, Jade Packer, Hannah Badger, Megan Richardson and Imogen Bennett.
