Top two turn the tables on rivals
HAMSTEL and Bournes Green junior school had good reason to celebrate when Southend School Sport Partnership held a table tennis tournament at St Christopher's School in Leigh.
The day was split into two sessions with the participating schools divided into teams of four.
Staff calculated the results into team scores as well as the champion girl and boy plus second and third places.
Hamstel's A team came out top in the morning session, with Bournes Green taking the top three spots in the afternoon session.
AM SESSION
Team results: 1 Hamstel Junior School A, 2 Darlinghurst Primary School & Nursery, 3 Temple Sutton Primary School, 4 Blenheim Primary School, 5 Hamstel Junior School B.
Individual results: Champion boy, Hamstel Junior School A; Champion girl, Darlinghurst Primary School & Nursery; second boy, Hamstel Junior School A; second girl, Hamstel Junior School A; third boy, Temple Sutton Primary School; third girl, Temple Sutton Primary School.
PM SESSION
Team results: 1 Bournes Green Junior School A, 2 Bournes Green Junior School B, 3 Bournes Green Junior School C, 4 Thorpe Greenways Junior School, 5 Temple Sutton Primary School, 6 Darlinghurst Primary School & Nursery, 7 Thorpe Greenways Junior School, 8 Blenheim Primary School.
Individual results: Champion boy, Bournes Green Junior School A, Champion girl, Bournes Green Junior School A; second boy, Bournes Green Junior School A, second girl, Bournes Green Junior School A; third boy, Thorpe Greenways Junior School; third girl, Bournes Green Junior School.
St Christopher's also played host to a sports hall athletics day for reception pupils which was split into three sections.
The children were brilliant at remembering what they had to do and we can also see lots of promising talent for the future in Southend sport.
Edwards Hall, St Mary's Church of England and Hamstel were the three winners from each session.
Morning session results: 1 Edwards Hall Infant School, 2 Heycroft Primary School, 3 Leigh, 4 Eastwood Infant & Nursery Foundation School.
Lunchtime session results: 1 St Mary's Church of England Primary School, 2 Barons Court Infant School & Nursery, 3 Porters Grange Primary School & Nursery, 4 Bournemouth Park Primary School & Nursery.
Afternoon session results: 1 Hamstel Infant School, 2 Thorpe Greenways Infant School, 3 Richmond Primary School, 4 Hinguar Community Primary School.
The partnership also held its third cross-country race at Southend High School for Girls.
The event ran like clockwork but due to the sheer volume of participants the results were not available in time for this week's column.
