Cross-country duo look for glory
 |
| Running for more cross-country glory Essex Schools' stars Camilla Smee (left) and Emily Burgess for St Hilda's at Norwich tomorrow. |
ST Hilda's School, Westcliff, make their latest bid for cross-country glory at Norwich tomorrow.
Last year the Imperial Avenue School had 14 qualifiers for the Independent School Association National Cross Championships.
Now they will look for more success when the 2008 regional finals go ahead tomorrow at Norwich's New Eccles Hall School.
The St Hilda's girls will be boosted by two of their students qualifying to represent Essex in the team to contest the English Schools' Cross-Country Championships at Sefton Park, Liverpool, on March 8.
The duo, Camilla Smee (14) and 16-year-old Emily Burgess, earned their places with outstanding performances in the Essex Championships at Gloucester Park, Basildon.
Smee will run in the junior team, while Burgess was picked at intermediate level.
Smee, a Southend AC member, has twice won national ISA titles at both cross-country and on the track.
Burgess, also a Southend AC member, is the national ISA 800m champion.
Susan O'Riordan, proud headmistress at St Hilda's, said: "The girls were selected from highly competitive races.
"It is a great honour that a school of our size has produced two pupils who will represent Essex. It is a credit to the talent and determination of these two girls."
