Earls Hall Junior School are celebrating after once again winning the much coveted Southend Schools' six-a-side football finals.

Earls Hall qualified for the finals back in November and the showdown matches were staged over several weekends.

The victory meant the school, in Carlton Road, Westcliff, also won the right to represent Southend United FC in the South of England regional finals.

Competing against five other local schools, Earls Hall's ability to score goals in the finals proved to be the major difference themselves and their rivals.

Winning four of their five matches, they secured the six-a-side trophy, playing some attacking football while defending solidly and generally being perceived as the underdog.

The successful team consisted of: Luke Gosling, Bailey Moss, Drew Rawlinson, Jack Miller, Lloyd King, Charlie Little, Austin Glazebrook-Smith and Ben Aston.

The school will now be hoping to embark on another successful run in the competition following a campaign in 2006 that saw them reach the national final at the Millennium Stadium in Cardiff, Wales.

This year's final takes place at Wembley Stadium and although a very long way off, the boys can only dream of what might be.

The 2007/08 season is proving to be a successful one on the football front for both the boys and the girls at Earls Hall.

The boys are also top of the seven-a-side league, and through to the quarter finals of the 11-a-side county cup.

The girls team have already won the Essex Cup, and are also looking forward to representing the county in the regional competition later in the year, one that could also lead to Wembley.
