Primary pupils get a sporting chance

BOURNES Green infants school did their bit for Sport Relief by holding a non-traditional sports events day.

Football, netball and other mainstream sports went out the window at the Ladram Road school in Southend.

In their place was a range of sports that the pupils would not normally do.

The whole school took part in a morning orienteering session which included a treasure hunt and a maze activity.

In the afternoon pupils got a chance to try karate, uni-hoc and mini Olympic sessions.

"The day was also used to increase children's awareness of intra school competition," said a spokesman for Southend Schools Sport Partnership, which organised the event.

"Therefore children were accumulating points for their team throughout the morning session, and were given awards in an assembly dedicated for sport and achievement in their school."

l BOURNES Green lost out on penalties to Thorpedene Junior School in the final of the Southend Schools Sports Partnership key stage two hockey tournament held at Warners Bridge in Southend.

Thorpedene Junior School (B), Bournemouth Park Primary School, St Georges Catholic Primary School, Alleyn Court Preparatory School, Blenheim Primary Schhol, Chalkwell Hall Junior School were the other teams involved in the tournament.
