School A team takes honours
THE A team came out on top when they took the B side in a clash of the Alleyn Court school teams.
The two teams were in the final of a primary school tournament organised by Southend School Sports Partnership.
And the A team were in fine fettle after their 49-14 win over their fellow pupils at the Wakering Road school in Thorpe Bay.
Southend Swifts coach Stephen Pearl presented the trophy and two of his players, Emma Hart and her brother Joe, helped out on the day with refereeing and coaching respectively.
"Emma and Joe started playing basketball at Alleyn Court so it was nice that they were putting something back in," said their father, Paul Hart, who is head of PE at the school.
"The children also got a chance to see what it is possible to achieve and both Emma and Joe have represented England at basketball."
l JOE Hart is heading off with the England under-15 to Spain this weekend to play in an international tournament.
The Southend Swifts player, who is a pupil at St Thomas More school in Westcliff, will be playing in Majorca.
Hart has also been training with the England under-16 and under-18 teams and hopes to be one of the two under-16s the team will be taking to the European Championships which will be held in Sarajevo, Bosnia, in August.
